Esoteric America: Founding Design by Hayato Matsushita
Esoteric America: Founding Design by Hayato Matsushita explores the symbolic and philosophical structures underlying the American experiment through imagery drawn from flags, sacred geometry, Tarot, and Revolutionary-era iconography.
Opening reception: Friday, July 3, 2026, from 5 pm to 9 pm
Drawing connections between the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, the visual design of the republic, and Philadelphia’s central role in the nation’s founding, the works examine how ideals of liberty, unity, and transformation were encoded into America’s cultural identity. Created in celebration of America 250, the exhibition reconsiders the nation not only as a political project but also as a carefully imagined symbolic design.
Hayato Matsushita investigates visual journeys that explore hidden, alternative, and overlooked subcurrents of American cultural history and material identity.
This exhibition is part of ArtxStitch’s (Studio 3) multi-gallery experience of concurrent exhibitions, running from July 3 through August 1, 2026, curated by Cherry Street Pier studio artist Duwenavue Santé Johnson.
