Solo Exhibition by Sonia Shiel

August 1–31
2026
Location: Cherry Street Pier
Time: Pier Operating Hours

This summer, discover a one-of-a-kind art experience at Cherry Street Pier with a solo exhibition by Dublin-based artist Sonia Shiel, curated by Leah Triplett of PAFA (Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts). Free and open to the public.

Sonia’s newest work – title coming soon – is inspired by the Delaware River Waterfront and the energy of water, wind, and movement. This site-specific installation invites you to step inside a world of shifting paintings, moving materials, and costume pieces that turn the audience into part of the story. The art isn’t just something you look at, it’s something you step into.

With a mix of colorful nautical elements and playful interactivity, the exhibition brings the river to life in new ways. Expect big ideas, bold visuals, and a little bit of mystery.

About the Artist
Sonia Shiel is a contemporary artist from Dublin, Ireland. Her paintings explore how we connect with nature, with one another, and with ourselves. Using colorful and surreal imagery, Sonia creates dreamlike worlds that feel both playful and intense.

Her work often examines big ideas, such as survival, change, and the environment, and places them at the edge of danger and discovery. Through bold colors and moving materials, she shows how life can be both chaotic and beautiful. Sonia’s art invites us to think about what it means to live, adapt, and grow in today’s world.
